Students can apply for a position in a research project at university and avail fellowships to do research. Fellowship is the most popular option.

Universities, state governments and the central government have some reserve research funds for research students.

The state or central government also has several scholarship schemes for a particular student population for higher studies like a doctorate.

Universities also have some dedicated funds for research and development, students can avail it if their research would help the university in the future.

Some students can’t arrange freely available funds. Those can arrange it from their parents, saving or crowdfunding.

I don’t recommend but an educational loan is also the best option for students who can’t arrange funds.
